Stepping Stone….Energy?

So when did you think that just walking around town would supply power for the buildings, lights, and activities nearby? Or even just the stepping on a square would provide enough energy to provide a light to ensure safety?

A UK company, Pavegen Systems, has developed rubber sidewalk tiles made from 100% recycled tires. The tile depresses slightly each time someone walks on them and the ensuing kinetic energy is formed. The energy is stored inside and the tile and about 5% of it makes the tile glow. The other 95% provides power to devices nearby including lights and more.

The tiles aren’t in official use yet but once the company has enough funding let the walking begin. Imagine having these at People’s Square during rush hour!
