The NYTimes ran a story about companies ranging from Nike, Herman Miller, to Tandus Flooring which are pushing the envelope in terms of Green and Sustainability. Why are all these companies doing this? Of course it makes them feel good and helps make the world a better place but the true motive? It’s making them more money.
The Nike jerseys at the World Cup in South Africa are being made from plastic bottles being recycled. The Tandus Flooring carpets being installed in Asia are made from recycled glass bottles.
“It’s coming from economics,” said Marc Stoiber, vice president for green innovation at the Chicago-based business consultancy Maddock Douglas. “If you look at the big guys like Wal-Mart, they embrace green because it’s all about efficiency.”
The only way that this will all work if there continues to be more opportunities thanks to economics.
