ARCHITECTURE BY A00
URBN Hotels Shanghai is a junction of Chinese roots and modern lifestyle. A00 Architecture provided the URBN Hotels Shanghai with its spatial concept, interior and facade design.
A00 Architecture was founded in 2004 by Raefer Wallis and Sacha Silva. Their reputation for innovative and iconic projects has allowed them to develop a diverse portfolio that includes the modern conversion of historic warehouses, feature restaurants and lounges, luxury spas, retail stores, design hotels and private retreats. The firm is most well known for its modern conversions of Shanghai’s historic houses into highly personalized residences. A00 Architecture is also known for their research in environmental sustainability and its application to their work in architecture, interiors and furniture. Since 2006, they have been pioneering the development of modern rammed earth construction (SIREwall™) in China. URBN Hotels, Shanghai is no exception and features many of the environmental ideas and techniques that A00 has been developing in Shanghai.
INTERIOR DECORATION BY TAIS CABRAL
The hallmarks of Tais Cabral’s work – luxury, modernity and comfort, form the basis of URBN Hotels Shanghai’s interior design. With URBN’s guest rooms, Tais demonstrates how the artist history of a specific location can be expertly crafted into a contemporary and uncomplicated style.
A native Brazilian, Tais Cabral received her degree in architecture in Sao Paulo. Working in Paris she directed several interior design projects and began establishing herself also as a furniture designer. Her design contributions in the areas of commercial, cultural, residential and retail architecture emphasize a consistent dialogue between interior and exterior and a deep connection with the essence of the location. Living in Shanghai for the last year, the URBN project launches Tais’ independent consultancy.

SGTH Designs provided the URBN Hotels Shanghai project with its naming, identity and graphic design.
Founded by Belgian creative Mario Van der Meulen; SGTH Designs offers a broad range of design services to brands on 4 continents. He has worked on large retail environments, innovative beverages, comprehensive corporate branding, entertainment design, mail order systems, consumer communication marketing and food-beverages projects, with recognition in local, national and international design shows and publications. SGTH Designs was also to first China-based design studio to be listed on the DesignCanChange.org directory, an organisation that promotes sustainable productions and green design practices. The passion and dedication to offer solid brand design and creativity, and the mix of both an international and a solid China design experience offered a fertile playing ground to develop the detailed look and style of URBN Hotels Shanghai.
